In the last couple of years, the rate of traffic related offenses in India has risen to a very high point. Most of the offenders are drivers who do not simply obey road safety measures.
Since almost all the punishments meted out did not seem to yield any good result, authorities were forced to sue their "last resort"; to make offenders work as traffic police!
That is to say, instead of the usual payment of fines as a punishment, which only made the offenders worse, offenders will now be required to join the police constables in directing traffic.
This exercise, which takes about half an hour or more, is meant to help drivers understand what it means to manage the sort of "chaos" they cause on the road. For a fact, this idea seems to work. Since its inception in Gurgaon, northwestern India, some drivers admit that the lessons they learned had totally changed their attitudes.
According to the deputy police commissioner of Gurgaon, they issue 1000 fines to offenders daily but it didn't work. Now, they only imagine how it would be like to have extra 1000 constables everyday due to this exercise! What a shock! I only wish authorities in Ghana could also adopt this plan.
